Our NS Advocates in Action!
“The networking session was a meaningful one where seasoned industry players shared their good practices in support of National Service,” said Ms Liza Seet, Group HR Manager, Cathay Cineplexes, about the session.
National Service Directorate (NSD) was the co-host with Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) for TGIF@SMF, a monthly event where member companies gather to learn and network with one another. October’s event – titled “Supportive Employers Networking” – was held on 26 Oct 2018. 150 participants across 50 different companies were rallied on a purposeful journey in upholding their commitment and support to National Service and Total Defence.
Being proud recipients of the Total Defence Awards (TDA) 2018, Mr Bryan Sio – Director, CA Safety Technology Pte Ltd and Concord Associates Pte Ltd – and Ms Felicia Tan – Human Resource Business Manager, Sakae Holdings Ltd – shared about the journey their companies took towards attaining the NS Mark (Gold) accreditation and the prestigious TDA 2018 – NS Advocate Award.

The networking and sharing session allowed many employers, including Ms Liza, to realise that support to NS does not have to be as resource intensive as what they first perceived. After the sharing, many of the employers and business owners signed up for NS Mark (Gold) on the spot and shared that they are prepared to partner NSD to garner stronger support for NS.
“Personally, I feel that our NSman employees are able to apply leadership and communication skills at work and are able to coach fellow colleagues as well.” – Ms Liza Seet on how NS has benefitted her company.
Mr Alex Ng, Head Human Resources & Administration, Diners Club Singapore shared that the session at SMF “served as a reminder to all employers to always stay vigilant and to show support to NSman employees for their in-camp training”. He also placed emphasis on the significant role that defence plays in enabling Singaporeans to enjoy decades of peace and tranquillity, and therefore signed up for NS Mark (Gold) on the spot.
